***************

Why do you end so early at 6:00 PM?

The cutoff time was selected due to the typical slow down of traffic in the
Quilted Bear by people getting ready for Saturday night. You know, getting
ready to go out to dinner, movies, dancing, or anything else other than out
shopping. The sampling event times may run longer! The sampling event on
November 20th, ran until 7:00 PM! I had no other plans, had supplies, and
had people having fun Sampling Spicy Stuff! If later
, sample events will not
run much longer than 8:00 PM, as we do have to clean up and be out by closing.

We may even run an unadvertised sale or special offer during the sampling!
Stop by and find out! By the way, I always have milk and whip cream ready
for anyone that tries something a bit too hot for them! Read more about that
below... I have some VERY HOT sauces! Don't worry, we'll warn you if you ask.

You want to try something Extreme? I'll have something waiting for you!
Remember, these are family stores... Burn Your Tongue but Watch Your Mouth!

We have two Burn Your Tongue booths with even more fiery food selections

We are also expanding our selection at the Cannery Center in North Ogden!

I tried something too hot! How can I stop the burn?

If you find that you cannot handle the heat after eating a chile pepper or
sauce, try eating a dairy product such as milk, yogurt, sour cream or ice cream.
Dairy products contain a chemical called Caisen that fights the effects of the
chile pepper capsaicin by stripping it from taste receptor sites.

CAUTION

Drinking water will not stop the burn of a pepper!

Drinking water can actually spread the "heat" and may make things feel worse
by covering more taste receptors! The oils in the pepper are not water-soluble.

Other remedies include bread, crackers, peanut butter, and anything else you can find
to put a taste, other than "HOT" in your mouth. Anything with fat in them will be helpful.

From a few minutes to even hours, the heat of a pepper or hot sauce will dissipate
by itself. People eating something beyond their tolerance for heat often try anything
they can to calm the burn, hence the creation of many random home remedies.
Many times, the heat has subsided due to time.

Many people actually enjoy the lingering "heat" of peppers and sauces! There are
people that experience a pleasurable to euphoriant effect from eating capsaicin! Folklore
among "chileheads" attributes this to a pain-stimulated release of endorphins, similar
to the feeling of a "fight or flight" response, from the taste receptor overload!

Enjoy the Burn!
